Vietnam-era plane being towed to G-Star School on Wednesday

PALM SPRINGS — A Vietnam-era Grumman Mohawk gunship airplane that saw action in Vietnam, The Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq will be towed to G-Star School of the Arts for Film, Animation and Performing Arts Wednesday morning.

The mohawk will be towed on its own wheels from the Palm Beach County Park Airport in Lantana six miles north on South Congress Avenue to the school around 11 a.m.

The plane will be parked next to a historic WWII Douglas C-47 Dakota Skytrain that flew into Normandy on D-Day in 1944 and that was delivered to the school several years ago.

“They will sit side by side,” said Greg Hauptner, the charter school’s CEO. “The kids sit out under the wings of the airplane for lunch. It’s great.”
