LAKE WORTH — For Denise Roeser, St. Patrick’s Day is more than shamrocks and revelers warbling the beloved Irish ballad “Danny Boy.”
Roeser’s daugther was born with hypertonia cerebral palsy, the most common form of the genetic disorder that results in muscle stiffness and spastic movements.
It’s the reason why Roeser started Wheels For Kids 14 years ago, a non profit that donates customized wheelchairs for children and adults in Palm Beach County. The wheelchairs range from $6,000 to $32,000.
“The parade brings awareness to the charity and the children who need these customized wheelchairs,” Roeser said.
That tradition continue today when the parade, hosted by the Lake Worth Shamrock Club, kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Lake Avenue.
Greg Smith, Rhum Shack owner, is the parade’s grand marshal.
