LAKE WORTH — The money raised for Wendy Chay Son and her family continues to grow.

As of Wednesday afternoon, $3,675 has been tallied on the gofundmepage set up for the 8-year-old Son, whose South D Street home was robbed last month, with the crook getting away with two computers, two laptops, clothing, jewelry and about $360 in cash stashed inside Wendy’s piggy bank.

Instead of being upset at the burglar, the Barton Elementary School second-grader penned a heartwarming note, saying God will forgive him or her. She also wrote “I hope you will change and be good.”

Wendy taped the note to her front window so the thief could see it. Monday night, she read the letter at a candidate forum hosted by the Genesis Neighborhood Association.

In addition to the money raised, the family also received two laptops and a printer, according to Mark Parilla-Focarile, whose mother lives next door to the Sons and who is GNA president.

The goal was to raise $3,500. Parilla-Focarile said the account was scheduled to be closed Wednesday night.

“We are grateful we could take away some of the stain of how this family was welcomed to our city,” Parilla-Focarile said.

The Sons, Albertina and Jose, had just moved to Lake Worth from Delray Beach two weeks before their house was robbed.

The family is scheduled to receive the check at the next city commission meeting Tuesday, Parilla-Focarile said.
