LAKE WORTH — The city may not have a new gym, but it sure looks like it does.

The facility, built in 1998, just got a $125,000 makeover — new floor, new automatic bleachers, new landscaping, a 55-inch TV for the after school program, four new computers, new tiles.

“It looks like a brand new gym,” said Aundra Lowe, the city’s recreation athletic coordinator.

The project took three months. The gym closed in October for the renovations.

The makeover centerpiece is a new synthetic wood floor, Lowe said is an upgrade over the multi-purpose rubber floor that was there before.

To tout the new and improved gym, the city on Feb. 4 is hosting a grand re-opening, ribbon cutting ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon featuring music and bounce houses.

The event is open to the public. The gym is on 1515 Wingfield Street.

The new floor got a trial run this past Saturday when a youth basketball game was played.

But Lowe said the city wanted to host a big grand opening to celebrate all the gym’s improvements.
