Lake Worth preparing for severe flooding from Hurricane Matthew

LAKE WORTH — As of early Tuesday afternoon, the city hasn’t issued an official statement on how it’s preparing for Hurricane Matthew.

In an email to the Palm Beach Post Monday night, City Manager Michael Bornstein said areas of severe flooding will be under evacuation orders through Palm Beach County.

“We can only clear drains and advise people to leave if the order is given,” Bornstein wrote.

The city’s first action will be to remove sections out of the Lake Worth Pier so the waves can pass through the deck without damage, Bornstein said in his email.

Bornstein said the city was scheduled to meet with its Emergency Operations Center team this morning. He did not return several calls seeking comment on the meeting.

The city has this handy hurricane preparedness guide on its website.
