Troubling number of heroin overdoses in Lake Worth

Heroin overdoseLAKE WORTH — Since Jan. 1. there were 88 heroin overdoses in the city — 18 of them fatal — Palm Beach County Sherriff’s Office Captain Todd Baer told the City Commission at Tuesday’s meeting.

“We’re cruising to almost 200 overdoses this year, with 36 of them fatal,” Baer said. “That’s unbelievable and triple the amount of homicides or car wrecks.”

In his 20-minute presentation, Baer showed a bunch of dots representing the reported overdoses. The blue dots were those who survived while the red dots were those who died.

“Those dots are people,” Baer stressed. “That’s some scary math.”
